jaynatarajan Guest | Hi,
My Windows Media Player does not play AVI’s. When I run it I get a msg at the bottom that says “error downloading codec”. I have the latest version 9.
Any suggestions are welcome.

I just downloaded and installed a file from the site, and I got a virus. Coincidence, I don’t think so. You got me. In fact, my NAV warned me about installing the application. The result, it took out my edonkey app. which is what I think it was meant to do.
Never trust any of these loser homegrown sites especially the ones that sound sincere. Download Divx Player from freeware.com.

Jae Guest | Something that has worked for me is to download the AC3 filter software. Google search for AC3 and there you go.

If you have Norton’s Anti-Virus installed and running, it may popup and tell you that the CF is trying to install something and Norton’s blocks it! I can promise you all now... There is NOTHING in the Codec Finder that will harm your computer! What it is is the Codec Finder trying to place an icon on your desktop and in your SendTo menu that does this! The Faimous One is well respected and is sincere in everything he does. The error is actually down to NAV itself.

Regular Rep: 0Joined: 14 Nov 2003 Posts: 615 OFFLINE | As you can see TFO would need to make an installer to get around the tiny NAV problem, which is not needed IMO. The file would end up being larger, instead of being small and ready-to-go from the get-go.

creatorbri Guest | I had a problem where a DivX video was playing the video part, but I had no audio — Windows MP recognized the codec (which I installed on my system) but couldn’t figure out what Audio codec to use.
Downloading the VideoLAN VLC Media Player, as per the suggestion of “Bobby Bobster” above, solved my problem. I didn’t like the interface at all, but to be able to enjoy the final episode of my current favorite Sci-Fi show, it was more than worth the minor annoyances! So I highly recommend giving it a try if you’re having codec problems..
But always try downloading the appropriate codec first, if you know what it is — more often than not it’s probably because the video requires DivX.

RIkz Guest | hellooo yes all are very good messeages and i have lots of avi films on my comp i once had that problem, i have heard that ac3 is good but for agessss i ave uses VLC paler this is the answer to your questions it works well!!!

K-Lite Codec Pack contains the GSpot tool and all the most common codecs.
