jaynatarajan Guest | Hi,
My Windows Media Player does not play AVI’s. When I run it I get a msg at the bottom that says “error downloading codec”. I have the latest version 9.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks/Jay

RastaMan Guest | Be aware of
http://tfo.fasttrackcentral.org/downloads.htm.
I just downloaded and installed a file from the site, and I got a virus. Coincidence, I don’t think so. You got me. In fact, my NAV warned me about installing the application. The result, it took out my edonkey app. which is what I think it was meant to do.
Never trust any of these loser homegrown sites especially the ones that sound sincere. Download Divx Player from freeware.com.

lestrade Guest | I just downloaded it and NAV had no complaint.
It worked as advertised for me.

Jae Guest | Something that has worked for me is to download the AC3 filter software. Google search for AC3 and there you go.

“There is one VERY large issue with the Codec Finder. If you have Norton’s Anti-Virus installed and running, it may popup and tell you that the CF is trying to install something and Norton’s blocks it! I can promise you all now... There is NOTHING in the Codec Finder that will harm your computer! What it is is the Codec Finder trying to place an icon on your desktop and in your SendTo menu that does this! I have been trying to work around this issue, but I have found no safe way to make this work WITHOUT using an installer to install the program! And I have always just kept the CF small, portable and friendly to all computers. If you have ANY doubts about this, please contact me at my e-mail address or visit me on the forums! Thanks..."
The Faimous One is well respected and is sincere in everything he does. The error is actually down to NAV itself.

creatorbri Guest | I had a problem where a DivX video was playing the video part, but I had no audio — Windows MP recognized the codec (which I installed on my system) but couldn’t figure out what Audio codec to use.
Downloading the VideoLAN VLC Media Player, as per the suggestion of “Bobby Bobster” above, solved my problem. I didn’t like the interface at all, but to be able to enjoy the final episode of my current favorite Sci-Fi show, it was more than worth the minor annoyances! So I highly recommend giving it a try if you’re having codec problems..
But always try downloading the appropriate codec first, if you know what it is — more often than not it’s probably because the video requires DivX.

aurelio Guest | Use the GSpot Codec Information Appliance tool to find out what codecs those files need.
K-Lite Codec Pack contains the GSpot tool and all the most common codecs.
