Try opening it in VirtualDub (available free from http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/) and saving it as an avi from there. You should find that converts it into a compatible format.
thanks a lot for the tip , it works for me.

Mac77 Guest | I had trouble importing mpeg-2 video from a capture
device - I converted it with DivX Converter, and
changed the file extension to .mpg
Then it opened just fine
I also think I’m using the Xvid Codec

IV Guest | FYI:
I could not import .avi with the version 6.0 but after downloading and installing M-JPEG Codec v3.0.0.9 from (http://www.morgan-multimedia.com/technicalsV3.htm)I have no problems anymore!
Thanks a lot guys!

That actually worked for me, I downloaded this program and it told me what none other could, I was missing the div3 codec, and after some searching I found the divx, now I was able to open it with this one but not in adobe premier 7.0, after that I did “save as avi” and I was able to import the video
Thanks a lot!
Note: none of the other methods worked for me
