I get this error when trying to play some wav files attached to emails

The audio codec identified by the format tag 7 is required to play this file. To determine if this codec is available to download from the Web, click Web Help.

anyone know what to do?

not yet. I do know that it is using the g711 codec which is not installed on my computer. If i use another program to play the file it wotks. I believe the codec was removed when fixing another problem and using dell tech support in India. They told me to delete some codecs and I just have not got the patients to call them again. If I uninstall the audio card and reinstall it I believe it will fix the problem. I will try it soon.

Looks like this is an issue with Windows Media Player 9. There is a fix available for download in this knowledge base article:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=814127

Try it out and see if it works for you.

uninstall and reinstall the drivers for the sound card. Also may have to reinstall wm9. This may involve uninstalling windows service packs.
