conversion from .rar to mpeg

hi!
i am a new user of this forum. thru this forum i learnt how to convert xivd to divx, thanks for that.
But, now i have a problem with vdc gear, i am trying to convert a rar file to mpeg but after i load the file and click on start button, it shows that 'unable to open the source file'.
kindly let me know how to fix this problem.

That’s because rar files are not video files. rar files are archives, like zip files. you open them with winrar (rarlabs.com) or winace (winace.com). depending on what you get after extracting the rar (a movie, a cd image, etc.) you can decide what to do from there.

Hi!

after extracting from winrar, the file
format was xvid.
i first tried to convert it to divx using a decoder.
when that didn’t work i tried the virtual dub,
but it came that “virtual dub requires
a video for windows(VFW) compatible codec
to decompress video. DirectShow codecs,
such as those used by Windows Media Player,
are not suitable."
the virtual dub could not locate a
decompressor for this xvid format.

after this i even tried it on the windows
media player on the latest updated version
but that also didn’t work. kindly let me
know how to go about it.

Get the xvid codec from here

Hi, Is there a program out there that is free which will allow me to work with .rar files. I have a movie and it is in .rar and I’m not sure how to turn it into an .mpeg file.

I have dowonload rar format file but it didn’t open so i want rar file format open type software rquire so pls send about that ..what will do to open this file..pls advice about that...i really thankfull to u..if u advice about thais...bye
