playing videos in good quality

The only player that can view videos in good non-blurry quality is my windows media player 10 and for some reason I get blurry crappy quality in other players like core player, divx, vlc, and etc. Is there a special all around codec for them because my windows media player 10 seems to be the best one tounge.
