Everytime when i play a movie or a dvd i see a black screen instead of the movie. there’s nothing wrong with the sound, cause i hear that.

i installed a lot of codecs, but i don’t thing that’s the problem cause i also see a black screen when playing dvd’s (!).

This problem began when i formatted my harddisk and installed windows again.

May re-installing windows fix this?

thx in advance.

I am having the same problem. Everything was working fine till a few days.

Now all of a sudden videos dont play. Sound comes. Although videos are visible only if I reduce the hardware acceleration. But thats not the way it should work. Videos should work even with full hardware acceleration.

I mean since I havent changed a thing on my PC. So its like it was working yest with full acceleration and suddenly today doesnt work. So something weird is going on. Tried uninstalling all the codecs and reinstalling and yet no luck sad

the 'method' by saneguy worked for me, but dont ask me why.

i right-clicked on desktop, went to properties.
then the first 'page' from the right. then advanced, then something like 'solving problem'.
then you see a bar, i changed it to 'minimum', pressed OK, then i immediateley changed it back to 'maximum' and then it worked fine for me. (if youve installed the right codecs). Maybe you should reboot your pc after you changed the acceleration to minimum, and then change it back.

the terms can differ a little bit. i am dutch and have a dutch version of windows xp, but i wasnt capable of directly translating the terms.

but i think and hope you know what i mean. hope this works for you. if not, post a reply...

good luck..

The way you say it looks like a video card problem. So first install a fresh DirectX 9.0c from Microsoft and after that check your video card manufacturer’s site for the latest driver on your card and install it.Clicking on desktop properties works with setting for desktop and video card so start from there.
