DVD Copying

Ok i am a rookie when it comes to new products, so i would be greatful if someone could help me with my questions, im sorry about the layout and number of questions but i am so %^$£king confussed with the different web sites lol.

Ok i have just bought a DVD+RW, now then, i have worked out that i need DVD+r and DVD+RW to record onto. Does DVDR and DVDRW both work in a normal house hold DVD player (family room version) and also is cheap media a good idea?

Second of all, what exactly is DVD-R & DVD-RW?
if this is too much to xplain, could you please give me a link where i can learn in common english lol.

Third of all, i have been scouting around looking for good programs to copy movies... and if this is illegal well im talking about the movies i made.. lol

I have currently using DVD X Copy Platinum & DVD X Rescue, the problem is they stick this stupid front end on all copys displaying a disclaimer. and second of all it wont copy its own copys.
so could you further assist me with a good program that copies perfect movies with no crap

is your dvdrw a dual type writer (can it write to both dvd-r and dvd+r?)

i have a dual writer and i first wrote a home movie onto a dvd+r, tried that in the dvd player in the living room and got “no disc” so then i tried dvd-r and that works fine

for backing up your own dvds you could use dvd decrypter to get the contents of the dvd onto your computer, then use a program called InstantCopy to shrink the contents so that they’ll fit onto a dvd-r, and then use InstantCopy again to write to the dvd (it doesn’t add anything like disclaimers etc), if you have to shrink the dvd files then you will lose some quality, the only way around this is if you buy a dual-layer dvd writer, which have only just come out! they allow you to write up to 8.5gb to a dvd instead of the usual 4.7

i haven’t tried copying a copy though i’m afraid.
