The files are encoded with RealVideo 9 codec and RealAudio 9 codec. I just can’t play it with RealPlayer 8 Plus. The player said it has to upgrade to RealPlayer 10 but this version of RealPlayer 8 Plus is gonna be deleted if I install RealPlayer 10.

If you’re connected to the net while viewing the video the codec should download automatically.

It’s odd you only got the upgrade msg, because when I tried to play a real media 9 clip in real player 8, I’d get the upgrade msg to rp 10 first, but when I click cancel it’ll offer me to download the codecs. Maybe it’s different with real player plus. Who knows?

Well here’s a manual trick you can try.
Ask a friend or someone you know who has real player 10 and ask them to find these files and send them to you.
drv43260.dll
rv403260.dll
Then copy them to this folder
C:/Program Files/Common Files/Real/Codecs

If all else fails you can also try real alternative, but then I don’t know what it’ll do to your real player plus.

I recommend uninstalling Real Player of any kind, then install Real Alternative:

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm

Real Alternative will do all of what Real Player can. The bonus with Real Alternative is it doesn’t have all the bad stuff in it which Real Player does.

Great tip about the dll-files! The dll-files can also be downloaded from http://www.dlldump.com/ !

I have been using the RV9 codec update with RealPlayer 8 (basic) and it usually works great - but have now come across an RV9 rmbv file that shows no video, just a black screen, the audio is fine.

These are the rwo codec files I updated already
drv43260.dll v6.0.7.2389
rv403260.dll v6.0.7.2389

Are there any other updates I need to do for the latest RV9 encoded files?

I don’t know if this is of any significance, but the version I have is 6.0.7.2222 for both files. It’s interesting to note Real Networks doesn’t make the codec download for Real Player 8 available anymore (have they been reading my post?)

I have been using realPlayer v8 with the standard RV9 codec update (6.0.7.2222) - these work for all my RM files except for a this new batch of rmbv files - these RV9 files play without problem using RealPlayer v10 and Real Alternative v1.29.

If at all possible I would prefer to update RealPlayer v8 - to avoid all the extras in the later versions.

The newer codec versions (6.0.7.2389 - from www.dlldump.com) make no difference - older files still play OK but these new ones have no video only audio.

Does anyone know if there are some other files I need to update to restore full RV9 decoding?

Alternatively if RP8 has a basic limitation that cannot be corrected by codec updates please let me know.
