MP Guest | I tried playing the file in Gspot and it said that it was running fine and I had everything. I can see the frame numbers and everything... there just aren’t any video or audio channels. It can’t be the file can it? Because A LOT of them are like that. Like 20 of my media files are doing this...

Herhey Guest | I also have the same problem.
DO you think re-installing media player would help?

oogy Guest | This s the most commonly asked question here.
Basically... you have downloaded 2 hours of nothing.
If your computer doesn’t have the codec for a movie... it will tell you that it can’t play the movie.
So if the movie plays...it means that what you see is what you get.
The only difference between media players is that sometimes winamp inverts the colours.

supafly Guest | no image and no sound......
try turn on monitor and increase volume in speakers!
no seriously, check with gspot to see if all codecs installed. if no install them.
if they are installed and still no good, then this is because contradictions between codecs, filters, utils and the registry entries.
simpler.. it means you installed TOO MANY codec packs! and they just make each others life too tough.
in this case you can (a) try to uninstall ALL codec packs and codecs you installed, restart, and install k-lite codecpack. some chance of success.
(b) remove manually all codec and filters files and all registry entries for them. chances are that if you can do it you you dont have this problem cause normal people dont get to this situation!!!
(c) most likely you gotta reinstall windows and remember some few rules:
DO NOT ISTALL ACE CODEC PACK!!!! IT COMES WITH SPYWARE!
DO NOT INSTALL NIMO!!! IT WORKS HEAVENLY SOMETIMES, BUT MOST USERS GET SHTLOAD OF TROUBLES WITH IT!
DO NOT INSTALL MORE THEN ONE CODEC PACK!!!
K-LITE CODEC PACK IS THE BEST, IF YOU NO OTHER PACKS YET INSTALLED, IF YOU’RE LATE, DO NOT INSTALL IT!
READ INFO ON THIS SITE AND OTHER GOOD INFORMATIVE SITES. YOU CAN FIND THEM ALL IN GOOGLE!!!!
DO NOT MIX LARGE AMOUNTS OF VITAMIN C WITH BAKING POWDER AND LIGHT IT WITH BURNING MAGNESIUM!

NRen2k5 Guest | I think you’ve been duped and the movies are fakes distributed by the MPAA.

Raxstone Guest | I’ve been using just the SLD codec pack, currently 1.5.3
I’ve been using this pack (in earlier versions) for about a year now, and have had no problems with it and any video format I’ve come across. I have in the past used Nemo and of course divx, but I found SLD works with less troubles than either of the other two.
I primarily use winamp for playing, but still have windows media player and divx player 2.1, as well as powerdvd. Winamp works great 99.9% of the time.
For sound filters, I believe the sld codec pack includes ac3 filters, so that shouldn’t be a problem either.

1 - 3ivX = 1.04MB - decodes both DivX and XviD.
2 - Moonlight Odio Dekoda 1.23 = 121KB - decodes both AC3 and MP3.
If I want to watch Real Media or QuickTime without any restictions I use Media Player Classic + the necessary Real and QuickTime codecs (usually come with Real Alternative and QuickTime Alternative).
The media player I normally use is Zoom Player.

entrerri Guest | Just because you’re player won’t open a file doesn’t mean it’s a bad file. I would start by downloading AVIcodec. The program will tell you whether the file you have downloaded has a codec which supports it. If not, you need to download the needed codec. The K-lite pack suggested by supafly worked great for me.
Now if you get the right codec and it opens blank or a two hour file plays for 5 seconds, sorry you got a bad file. But on the plus side you learned about codecs along the way.

The Unknown Guest | I downloaded a movie file (.avi) and burned it to a cd, played on my friends brand new dell and it would only play the audio. I know it works perfectly on mine however the only difference seems to be that I have Divx. By process of elimiation I have found having the right codec makes all the difference. Your media program just doesn’t know how to work with the file its playing. Divx works great and the other programs/codecs should work with most files. If they dont keep searching the net for the right codec. BE WISE IN CHOOSING YOUR CODEC-TOO MANY CODECS INSTALLED WILL HAVE AN AFFECT ON YOUR SYSTEM INTEGRITY.

v100dragon Guest | That being the case, what combination of codecs do you suggest to reap maximum benefits? Or would you simply use only one codec? I’ve been having this problem for quite some time now, and it would help alot if I had the best of the best codecs available (as opposed to an amalgamation of good-yet-conflicting codecs). Thanks in advance .
