Nero Not working! PLEASE help.

Hey there.
I got this LG burner and it uses the program Nero startsmart. Anyhow i couldnt figure out how to use it so i called them and what they told me didn’t work.
I have a feeling it’s just that my dvd player won’t play AVI files.
So HOW can i get NERO to convert them to MPEG or whatever?
And Once i put in the dvd-r do i go to Create Video CD?
If not then what do i go to?
And about how long should the entire proccess take?
I am getting really fed up with this program it’s NOT working properly.

you go to create dvd video and you dont need to convert from avi it will work. when you go to burn it will ask you what format and you want NTST not PAL
