handbrake is saying “no valid title found”. Does this mean that it doesn’t support the file type (I’ve tried .IFO .VOB and .BUP) or is something wrong with the file’s i have?

I have just converted a vob file to avi using auto gk. The picture quality is great but the sound is missing. Can anyone offer an easy solution to a novice?

I love the smart a$$es who list windows software in this thread.

I used DiVA to convert the VOB into an MOV then I used MPEG streamclip to convert the MOV to DV for editing in iMovie.

Only problem was, there was no sound. So I had to use bbDEMUX to rip the sound out of the VOB file. Then with mAC3dec I converted that sound to AIFF which I imported into iMovie for editing. It was real easy to line up the sound with the video in iMovie.

Of course this is all FREEware so that’s why I’m jumping through hoops.

You can do this very easily with DVD Ripper for Mac. Only it costs $50 bucks. http://www.mp4converter.net/dvd-ripper-mac.html

I tried to burn several scenes from a commerical movie (dvd) on my iMac G5 superdrive. I was able to play the burned video on my Mac, but the dvd would not work in my home dvd player. At home, the player could not (load) recognize the dvd.

On my Mac the video cuts copied as .VOB files. Can I convert these files to some other format that will play on my home dvd player?

you don’t have to convert them John, just 'finalise' them when you record. :0)

I’ve had luck with MPEG Streamclip. It’s free, you might want to give it a try.

For all Mac-Users in here: use Handbrake, Quicktime can’t handle anything (unless you install extentions till you crawl up the walls). handbreak is free, open source and a damn good program. fast and reliable. i’m stunned - video quality is a++.

You can use the freeware VirtualDub MPGE-2 and the codec AC-3 ACM (for the audio) to convert vob to avi. If I´m not mistaken VirtualDub works on a Mac. You can find both softwares in download sites.

I wrote a tutorial about that subject:

I hope it works for you.

Does anyone know any freeware programs that will convert avi and bin files to dvd, vob or mp4 file format? It would be greatly apprciated because I am sick of having to watch movies on my computer, when I could be watching them on my dvd player in my lounge room.

I wish to convert .VOB or .IFO files of my own creation on a VHS-to-DVD copier to .AVI so that I can edit them before creating a new DVD.

I have used iSofter DVD Platinum to process the VOB (and/or IFO) files to AVI.

I have used Adobe Premiere 6 LE to edit and recompile the AVI files.

I intend to use Ahead Nero to create a new DVD with the edited files.

I find there is a scale up of about 5x between the original VOB file size and the size of the resulting AVI file. For the files I am working with this results in a total file package of about 17 GB - clearly beyond the capacity of a DVD.

Is this normal?

I have looked for appropriate compression tools available if both iSofter DVD Platinum and Adobe Premiere 6 LE but I have not found anything that has made a difference.

What can I do?

Brenton
