I could never get an .avi to work on WindowsMP so I finally downloaded some codecs, checked to make sure they were the right codecs, and downloaded some other media players.

Now every time I try to play any .avi on any of my media players. It freezes up and says “mediaplayer Has Incountered a Problem and Needs to Close”. Could someone offer some advice or tell my why this is happening and how to fix it?

I have the same problem. The media players play all othe files. Problem is only with avi file. I have tried all kinds of players. Every one of them crashes with the same message “mediaplayer Has Incountered a Problem and Needs to Close”. I was googling to find if some one had a solution. Pity no one has replied so far.

I had exactly the same problem, did a bit of digging and tried many media players but Media Player Classic seemed to work fine on all avi files that crashed other media players.
