Ignore my other thread. New prob here. Plz reply.
Okay. I’ve used a couple of programs to identify which codec(s) the movie needs in order to play. I have the codecs installed. The problem is that there is a chunk of ASCII junk in the file. I used a program called AVIMedic to try and “repair” the file, but according to AVIMedic the AVI is in perfect condition. I need to know how to remove the 'ASCII junk' out of the file so that it plays correctly. Can someone please help?

The ASCII junk stuff is normal I believe. You using GSpot to identify the specs of the video file?

Download VideoLAN (www.videolan.org) and try playing ths file. If it plays correctly you’ve got a codec issue. VideoLAN uses its own filters to play files.

Yes I used GSpot to get the stats. Ok, I downloaded VLC and i get the same problem. It only shows me the first 10 seconds and VLC doesnt even show the video image, just plays the audio. Any other suggestions?

The file’s perhaps not repairable.

I’ve never used AVIMedic before, but I think there are better AVI fixers than that.

Try using DivX Repair:
http://divxrepair.sourceforge.net/

If that don’t work, I’d question whether or not the file was like that from the beginning. If it was, you may need to reconstruct the index, using VirtualDub, or some other variation of VDub.

Yeah. I tried AVIMedic and according to it the file is in perfect condition. I will go ahead and try the DivX repair and pray it works. Hopefully it wasn’t like that from the beginning. I don’t think so because the file had a lot of sources on Kazaa and according to www.bitzi.com the file has been rated as working from other people with the same file.

OK. I downloaded the DivX repair program and when i try to repair it says “Bad Frame Report from DivxRepair”. How would I use VirtualDub or whatever to change the 'index'. (I don’t know much about this kind of thing.)

Nice site, that Bitzi.com. It pretty much plays second fiddle to massive sites like FTC/STF and www.fasttrackcentral.org though. They most probably get most of their verifieds from FTC anyways :-)

Anyways, back to the video file. It’s obvious that AVIMedic didn’t do that good of a job idntifying the corrupt parts of the movie (there ARE definitely corrupt bits).

As you know, Kazaa (Lite (Resurrection) K++, etc), or any other FastTrack client doesn’t have corruption handling built-in, but there IS a way to fix a corrupted file using an external tool known as 'Kazaa Corruption Fixer'. It can be downloaded from here:

http://drspud.no-ip.com/using.html

If this is successfully used you’re file will be competely restored to its original state. Thus, it will not need to be edited or anything.

The other method is purely to use DivX Repair to fix (ie - cut out) the bad parts of the AVI file.

DivX Repair GUIDE:
http://divxstation.com/article.asp?aId=39

There is also the old fashioned way of using 'VirtualDub MP3 Freeze' to manually cut out the corrupted parts. It shouldn’t be needed though:

Tenders V-Dub MP3 Freeze VBR Audio and Bad Frames Guide:
http://www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/userguides/142555.php

Regarding the Index thing. Rebuilding the index is only required with files that are originally - incomplete, yet shared/downloaded. This, however, doesn’t need to be undertaken with the file you’ve got because it’s only a case of fixing that file first. Then go from there.

Just a question about that Bitzi.com site: Do they verify files, for the FastTrack network (Kazaa Lite (Resurrection) K++ etc), using Sig2Dat links (hashes)? If so, are you aware that the original creator of Sig2Dat was/is a long time member of FTC (FastTrackCentral.com, which is now FastTrackCentral.org). Infact Sig2Dat links were surfaced back in the day of some of the other sites that then grew into what FTC.com became.

So yeah FTC.org is a brilliant site, with good links and friendships with good people in the P2P world. They also have an actual Help section, which I guess Bitzi.com doesn’t otherwise you could’ve asked how to fix your file, over there wink

So, yeah. Check out fasttrackcentral.org if you like :-)
