In VSO ConvertToDVD4 - in “Tree view” expand titleset menu> select and right click on Subtitle stream> browse to location of SRT file > select to add to movie> convert
I believe what they really want to know is how to make the subtitle hard coded into the video file, either to burn the movie on a disk or just save it on a flash drive so they can view it on their player with a usb port.. there might be someone who can suggest a program to do something like that..
My vote is for STRBURNER. Excellent results.
AVI ReComp fails frecuently when writing the new file.
The best and fastest way to merge a srt file with a avi file, is to use AVIAddXSubs. With this small program you can merge the srt file with the avi file in just 2 or 3 minutes. And then you can burn the file on dvd or copy to usb flash drive.
Instructions to use this program you can find here:

I think that “ImTOO Video Converter Ultimate” is the proper program which can help you to merge AVI file and SRT subtitle into one AVI video.
