Hardeep,
To do the task I said you should do (Drop from avi to .mkv)
You can use mkvtoolnix:
http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/downloads.html
After you install it, drop them into the input box and select the output location, the filename, and finally start muxing.

Hi, I’ve got a small problem so I hope one of you can help me.. I work with windows XP home edition and I I’ve installed directvobsub so I could watch my avi. movies with subs but since I’ve installed directvobsub media player doesn’t react anymore when I open a movie with subs.. Movies without subs are no problem but the ones with subs just won’t play..

hitman47RegularThe problem may be that WMP and vobsub may be both trying to open the .srt/.sub/.txt file.
So, either check in WMP for a subtitle option....
Which version is it?
Also, WMP may just be set to open subtitles with the video player.

You can use Windows Media Player to play too.
Same thing just paste the avi and srt file in the same folder/directory. =)
Enjoy.

I got this working on the mac using VLC player. If you use Open via the menu you get a dialog box where it allows you to add a subtitles file when you add the movie.

hitman47Regularalcanuck,
You first seem to have a .rar archive. THe files are listed as part01 or jusr 01 right?
If so then I’m correct.
Either Download Winrar or 7-zip links are below. Winrar handles the multiple archives much better as it was most likely the files' creator.
Second, your file with the .!UT extension. This is because one of two things has occurred. You have either failed to finish the torrent, or told the program (presumably UTorrent) to re-check the torrent, and you failed to let it finish the recheck.

7-zip: http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

Ok, I gotta say you computer geeks rock! And I mean 'geeks' in the nicest possible way. I just got JCVD subs working on my Mac after reading this post for about 30 secs although I spent an hour trying to figure it out by myself before I found this MB.
Thanks a mil! Stay geeky!

Hi,
Basically srt and avi files must be under the same name eg Rock.avi and Rock.srt . both must keep in the same folder.

I also wanted to thank Moon for the info regarding implementing subs via <i>SRT</i> files. Its codec located at http://www.free-codecs.com/download/DirectVobSub.htm works great.
Thanks all!

Yes ,VLC is nice to play srt file.
And freeware ffmpegX also can help Mac users to merge videos and srt files into one file.

You could use a program called convertxtodvd. Open the video file, expand titlesetmenu, right-click subtitle, hit add, browse to .srt file, hit open.
Then just hit convert at bottom. The subtitles will be encoded in with the .avi into a dvd format.

I want to put a movie avi file onto a DVD, will the subtitles automatically go onto the DVD? or is there a different codec i’d need?
