I have the same problem with movies mania. I downloaded a bunch of korean movies (.avi) and their subtitles (.srt) files and they play fine on my VLC player. When i go to burn them and play on my separate dvd player, the movie plays, but the subtitles don’t.

Out of 5 that i’ve burned so far, 2 of them play with the subtitles, but the others don’t. I’m not doing anything differently to the files when i burn them. they all are in the same format, for example in my burn folder:
-The Classic.avi
-The Classic.srt

What am i doing wrong?

Hi all,

I have a problem that I don’t think I’ve seen addressed here before.

I’m using VLC on a Mac. I have followed all the instruction I’ve seen here to play the .srt subtitles. I think they are working, BUT it seems that the subtitles are really tiny, so small that I can’t read them at all. All I see is a very small squiggle at the bottom of the screen.

Anyone else had this problem? And how can I fix it?!

Thanks

OK, question, my goal is to get this onto my iphone, is there a way to use the srt but then save it as a file that has the subtitles integrated so i can then convert it to iphone format?

Dear movie lovers

Mostly .srt file are used when the movie is an .avi file.
It happens that subtitles are not synchronised with the movie. Movie can be divided in two parts. When you cut the .srt file in two parts all times of the second part must be recalculated.
When you look an movie on TV through DVD/CD it happens that at the end of an text line in the middle of an word was broken. The reason is that some drivers of DVD/CD players a limited amount of characters is allowed in one text line. Sometimes time was too short to read the title completely.
Because I experiments problems above I make a program to solve this. The name of the program is “Verbeteren srt files or Improve srt files” and is Freeware.
The program is in Dutch and English and is developed on a XP machine.

The program can:

Shift times
Stretch and shrink times
Cutting and sticking srt files
Repair on a certain high srt files
Calculate the frame rate of a movie
Detect lapping times (Possibility of automatic repairing lapping times)
Change times by hand
On the basis of the amounts of characters in a title, set the reading time of a title

It has edit possibilities such as:
Search to parts of text
Search with image number
Search with time
You can repair automatic and by hand misunderstood characters
Setting a text line width. This means between two words the text line is broken if title is to long

If movie has the same name and is in the same folder, the movie can start from the program
Every change made in the program has effect on the running movie if you have choose the proper player. That player is MpcStar player and is Freeware.
http://www.mpcstar.com/download.htm

The program is 215 KB tall. ( No spam or other unwanted things )

If you want this program, you can E-Mail me

dont bother dl mplayer,
just do what some of these cats said and make the name of your avi and your srt same works sweet in vlc.
eg.
bond.avi
bond.srt

For the guy on the mac, I was having trouble with the VLC player too. The preferences tab under my VLC player doesn’t have that menu either. But I read around and saw that if you change the subtitle to the exact file name as the movie and open the movie it works! I did read around and they said to open both the avi and srt file together but i had trouble with that too. Anyway long story short try changing the srt file name to the exact name of the avi file. Oh and don’t forget to put them in the same folder. Hope that helps you.

Hi MacBill,

This does not work because it does not allow me to have two files with the exact same name. How did you manage to do this exactly?

Please, anyone, am desperate for a solution here.

Thanks

Just use “NicePlayer” for Mac. But you have to put the files under the same folder (or directory)and file names being the same(the AVI and SRT files) for it to play.

Hi.
I have followed the instructions for use of SRT files with VLC player and i do get the subtitles with the movie (not all translation, however, but it may be the file itself that is incomplete).
I wanted to know if there is anyway by which we can permanently integrate the subtitles with the .avi file so that you don’t need to select and run the files together all the time from the 'Open file' command?

hardeep,

You can toss them into an alternative container.

Like an .mkv.

This way the two files (If named properly) will play simultaneously.

Simple solution.
