download and install these
codec: http://www.moviecodec.com/downloads/31d.html
player: http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/ (32-bit version; the 64-bit version will NOT work with Indeo) you’ll need this player because Windows Media Player will refuse to play it even with the codec installed
then run the registry patch (post #6)
http://www.moviecodec.com/solutions/iv31-iv32-iv41-iv50-indeo-3-4-and-5-8211/
you can edit or convert it with VirtualDub (32-bit version; the 64-bit version will NOT work with Indeo)
http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/
if you need a popular codec to encode it with, use xvid
http://www.koepi.info/ (click xvid 1.2.2 and save then install)
Ok I am no wiz here but here goes on what I have done...
running windows 7 home premium...
I went to the start and typed regedit... I opened the editor Ver 6.1
I went to this location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32
then I would go to Edit>NEW>String value
under value name I put: vidc.iv31
under value data I put ir32_32.dll
I did the same for the others...
no joy...
I then search for each DLL file to ensure I had them and each was found.
is there something I am doing wrong?
as I understand it this is what KM said to do? the only difference is my regedit is ver 6.1 not 5:

You can get Intel Video to play in Vista with the following registry changes. Microsoft includes the decoders in Vista, but has them deactivated from the factory. Note that this will only work playing the videos on a lcoal hard drive, not a network share.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32]
“vidc.iv31”=“ir32_32.dll”
“vidc.iv32”=“ir32_32.dll”
“vidc.iv41”=“ir41_32.ax”
“vidc.iv50”=“ir50_32.dll”
I will add my issue is with a IV41 Codec file I want to open and view I only get black screen with audio.

Windows 7 32bit here, can play IV41 file in KMPlayer and have the codecs installed. the entries in the registry in post4 are existing but i cant play this video in VLC or WMP, or any other player. Really want to convert this video piece though. any help welcomed.
I have been used video converter for 3 years, because of my work, an editor of a website, I have to cut many videos a day, and combine, convert, edit them. So, I used various video converter, I think any video converter and leawo video converter are the best ones, for any video converter is very easy to use, and leawo video converter has a good convert speed with high quality. I use them both.

the reg keys do not work for windows 7 x64. instead you can just download the normal indeo video 5.11 distribution. works like a charm. at least with my videos.
In the case of a 64-bit OS, you will need to put them in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32 (note the additional Wow6432Node in the path). This is because there are (for all intents and purposes) no 64-bit codecs, so you need to put them in the 32-bit part of the Registry.
Worked perfectly for me, Windows 7 64bit.
Thanks!
All good advice to get the videos playing. Does anyone have a good option to convert Indeo v4 videos into an updated format?
I am running an old Windows 95 program on Windows 7 using a virtual CD. The included videos were unable to play. Thanks to you I am now able to enjoy the full experience.
