Hi,
I recently downloded a movie from torrent..
When i play this avi file.. it runs a 4 second clips displaying message “Use Window Media Player”... and stop..
Its size is full 700 mb

pls help me.. to play this file.

I have a problem that I can´t find an answer to in this topic.

I downloaded a movie and got 8 files ending .AVI
they can´t be played in VLC player, and they can´t be opened by WinRar, so it´s not an archive.
It said where I downloaded it that it was a dvd rip, but I have no idea how to play it.

I even downloaded a dvd player that can play from folder, but it didn´t work.

Plz help!

i downloaded the dvdrip of twilight but the sound plays and the movie doesnt play. Why is does that happen?
I really want to watch this movie, should i convert the wmv file into another, will that work? btw please dont talk about codecs cos i have no clue what they are.

my problem is that i downloaded a 700 mb dvd-rip but i wont be able to play it on window media or vlc or km-kodec. i hv tried all the codecs and all the players but i wont play. in vlc it seems like playin but the cursor moves rather fast to the end without showing anything. my bit torrent software has finished downloading but it is still uploading. so, please help me about this problem.

If you mean literally playing a .torrent file you can’t. You need to use a torrent client to DL the video first.

You most likely are mistaken. You don’t have the hide unknown file extensions unticked.

— — Hide known File extensions (Untick this)

Most likely you now have an .avi file.

You need to extract the archives before you can play the file(s). If you’re on Windows then winzip is built in. Right click the .001 file or if there’s a .rar or .zip archive, extract that archive.

Now, looking at the file names, this is multi-packed. Meaning the person threw the desired file(s) into multiple archives to make downloading “faster”. So, be ready to extract more. Some people also do this to show it’s a “scene” release, where as others do it so they can add in a password. If it tells you to go to a site to obtain a password or to DL a certain video codec or player, don’t. It’s a rouse to infect your PC. Codecs required for video play, I will list below.

KW, you have downloaded a FAKE. Don’t go to that site, and avoid similar torrents. If it seems too good, it most likely is. Usually try sites that allow people to respond about the torrent, and many seeders doesn’t mean it’s a good file.

Now for codec issues:

You most likely require xvid, an ac3 filter, and .mp3 codecs. This will allow you to play 98% of the files you come across that are legit video files. (Links below)

It seems you’ve either an archive on your hands or you’ve mislabeled that file name. Get 7zip (Link below) and try and extract it. If it extracts successfully, then you’ll need an .mkv splitter, and the required codecs that MAY have been used.
