I used to import MOD to MOVIE MAKER and had no problem editing. Since I reformatted HDD, no go. Can anyone explain how that was so simple before and impossible now?

Ok...the MOD is another extension for MPG, so just rename.
The MOI just tells the OEM software the aspect ratio of 4:3 or 16:9. I dont know where the idea that the MOI has the audio came from!

So just rename the file to MPG and enjoy!

Thank you Ladyhawk and Schumi! All I had to do was rename .MOD to .mpg and everything worked like a dream! Has sound and the same quality of video. Awesome! Now I can get started on editing my movie!

You just rename the .mod to .mpg thats all.
You can view it in GOM player etc. The .mod has both picture and sound.
The .moi is just for direct to DVD use with the dedicated kit and cable.
For movie maker you need to conert the .mpg to .avi. I use format factory.

Prism Video Converter may well change them into wmv-files:

http://www.nchsoftware.com/prism/plus.html

Here you can see what files it can convert, and MOD seems to be in there:

At any rate, it’s extremely easy to use and it will cost you very little time to try.

Use the free version...

TO Ladyhawke...or anyone else who can help...I have approximately 100Gigs of video I’d like to edit into various products. I prefer Premier Pro for my compiling, sequencing, titling, and editing etc. “PP” also does not like .MOD and I can’t afford to buy “Elements”. I have 2 questions for you: 1)Can I import several clips in Power Director, use your method of converting them to .avi, and still edit to my delight in Premier?, and 2) How long would it take to convert say 1 hours worth of .MOD into .AVI? Thanks in advance for your assistance...
