If you are using Mac OS X, then you should try
ffmpegX.

Very flexible program. And it’s free!

I just wasted $30 on Quicktime Pro. I’ve written to Apple requesting a refund and I know how that’ll turn out. Converting a 5-minute .mov file to .avi took forever (probably over 30 minutes) and the resulting quality was TERRIBLE! DO NOT waste your money on any of these products. Until MS gets their head out of their arse and upgrades Windows Movie Maker to support .mov files there’s not much we can do.

Hahahahahaa, you jackass, he just asked how to convert and you made him tell his whole life story, why not just answer the question and move on and not ask why? You are the one making the post longer than it needs to be!!!

I have tried RadVideo Tools, don’t get it. Even though its really popular, it takes away the sound, and when you change the setting to not take away the sound, it has horrible quality. Also, if you pick one video out of a series you took on one day, it strings them all together and messes them up. Not to mention if the video is over 2 minutes it takes about an hour. Why cant we just get simple software that converts Quicktime to files that are compatible to windows movie maker? It’s not that complicated, and if you ask me people shouldn’t be asking money for it, windows movie maker should make an update or something because people rarely use it due to the file format it requires.

Why is it on every forum I visit, for every question asked, there’s some dumbf**k who sarcastically asks “Why would you want/do/buy that?" or “Google is your friend."...

Is it too much to ask that one give a direct answer to a direct question? There was ABSOLUTLY *NO* reason for the original poster “post more information about your request in the first instance” as snidely suggested. They asked a simple question and should have a reasonable expectation of a simple answer.

EXAMPLE:
“How much are the apples?" "$2.00 a pound."
as opposed to
“How much are the apples?" “Why would you want apples? Bananas are a far superior fruit and should always be chosen over apples. If you really *think* you want apples, then you should explain your specific rational for choosing them over another fruit before asking such a question!"

Quicktime sucks! As do most Mac apps. You can’t use it with anything but the inferior Mac crap.
