How the hell can i convert quicktime to windows media? this isn’t helpful! i need something simple!
For some strnage reason recently when I D/L my videos from my Kodak digital camera to my PC it palced them all in Quicktime. I do not mind this other than the videos were for some friends who do not have QT and will not D/L it. I have not been able to convert the videos and becasue the event has gone by I can not re-record the vids. In short, would love to know what the heck happened that allowed QT to take over my PC.
I’m trying to convert my digital camera .MOV files to something windows media player can play. It’s what my technically challenged family use. I downloaded AVS converter, but it isn’t activated. How do you activate it?
And for the rest of you:
RAD Video Tools is a general purpose freeware converter from MOV to AVI, but it recompresses (which is fine for most purposes if you have your MOV in codecs not available for AVI - sorenson or apple video (RPZA) for example) and has occasional glitches in audio.
If your source is from a digital camera, I highly recommend MP4Cam2AVI. It is an excellent transcoder. By default losslessly transfers the audio and video stream from one container (MOV) to the other (AVI), with no recompression, therefore no loss of quality. However its range of supported codecs is more limited than RAD. It supports pretty much all digital camera movie codecs though (H.263, MP4V (MPEG-4 part 2), H.264, Photo JPEG (fourcc JPEG), and MJPA for MOV; and MP4 files too).
MP4Cam2AVI is freeware and open source. Download it here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/mp4cam2avi/

You should have started a new thread, as this is off-topic for the thread + the thread is REALLY old.
Anyway, to answer your question, first make sure you have QuickTime Alternative installed, then change your file associations. In Windows XP, go to control panel (classic view), folder options, file types. Find the entry for MOV. Click on it, then click advanced. Click on open, then click edit. Then browse for Windows Media Player (it’s in C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player). Although you could use wmplayer.exe, I would highly recommend you stick to mplayer2.exe. It’s tried and true, and much less prone to problems. If you have time to kill, you can also change the icon for your mov files via that window. click on change icon, then browse for an exe or dll file that has lots of icons in it (or type one in, like quartz.dll - the green icon used to be the standard one for QuickTime MOV files.)
