if the subtitle file is .sub sometimes it would play only the default language and most player won’t show options to choose a different sub language so after changing to VMR7 or VMR9 you can access the option from
Play->Filters->DirectVobSub(auto-loading version)->
and you’ll see the list of subtitle languages available, choose the one you want

Hey guys,

I had the same problem with media player classic. A lot of the advice I read left out one crucial point which I help put here...

In media player classic go to View -> Options -> Playback -> Output -> DirectShow Video -> VMR7(renderless) or VMR9(renderless). Then when you play the file, go to File — > Load Subtitle.

That works for me. I hope it helps someone else.

I had the same problem like you with Volver with Penelope Cruz, very nice movie but subs suxs. I’ve been trying VLC and Media Classic and BS Player with no result. A big help was to reinstall directx and all the codecs also a new version of subs for the same movie. All these players use their own codecs and play subs if you keep them in the same folder. If your subs are ok and work the player show you subs.
