I totally forgot to state. In some cases you may need the VCM package to play wmv9 in an avi container.

or downloading windows media player 9 (or windows media player 10 if you have windows xp)
I have almost the exact same problem. I have Radeon 9200 with a lcd monitor on windows xp. 512 ram 3ghz. No video but have sound. I have the latest windows media player. I pretty sure i don’t need a codec. These are just regular videos that are playable in all computers. Some one please help.
Recently I installed a new video card (Radeon 9200, 8x AGP, with DVI) and a new LCD monitor (Samsung 191T with DVI) on my Win98 SE system (512 MB SDRAM and P3 933 MHz CPU). I also installed the latest version of Windows Media 9 player. Now, I get only audio and no video playback from sites and locally stored video clips all of which worked (audio and video) previously. After installing and running AVIcodec utility, it reported the following codecs available: cvid, iv31, iv32, iv50, m261, m263, mrle, msvc, uyvy, vdom, yuy2 and yvyu. Any clues on what is missing?
