(wild guess) Also sudden stoppage of video playback is often attributed to such things as installing codec packs, video filters (for example nero's), or video drivers (nvidia beta ones have gotten some posts on our board recently). (to NOLAZACH) It's really difficult to know what's going on with as many changes as you described on your system. Can you identify the files or types of files that won't play back? Is it files of a specific extension or codec? (Use diagnostic utilities like avicodec or gspot to help you). Changing drive letters/OS shouldn't affect playback (unless you can't even access the files at all - can't open, move, or delete - in which case you need to take ownership - see http://www.moviecodec.com/topics/4160p1.html)[/quote]

Had the codec error message even though I have Media Player 11. Went to the site:

downloaded the required zip and ran the exe and now everything works. thanks!!

when i try to play a movie clip online,it says it looses internet connection. i have windows vista home basic (junk) when i play it through the mozzila browser, they work. can anybody help?

my WMP 11 wont play any 3gp or mp4 videos ,can i download anything so it can play them properly?????And i have already installed the newest version of divx!!!ty

finally after hours here is the answer download stinkys codec thank god only took a few minutes then the mpg icon turned into a picture from the video and now works perfectly with wmp11 why dont they come with these video codecs very frustrating anyway here is the link

I had the same problem but finally got it to work by going to this site:

http://www.free-codecs.com/FFDshow_download.htm

and downloading the first link called:
FFDShow MPEG-4 Video Decoder 2009-01-30 MMX

My videos worked right away with Windows Media Player as soon as I downloaded it.

This was the only thing I found that works — I tried everything else suggested on the page, multiple times uninstalling/reinstalling codecs and different players and versions, none of those worked.

i’m having basically the same problem, just that i see video, but no audio. The video i’m trying to watch, i just go done editing with Premier Elements, and i tried watching it in windows media player, but there’s no audio, and it says i’m missing codecs.
