The Windows way to get rid of some codecs is this: start/control panel/sound and audio devices/hardware/audio codesc/properties/properties/highlight the one you hate/remove. Same way for video codecs. But before this download Sherlock the Codec Detective from this site and is going to tell you which codec is broken (in red).Write it down and start killing codecs. http://www.free-codecs.com/ Use search for Sherlock.
