Just delete k-lite codec pack and it worked for me- every time i opend the folder with the video in before it crashed and sometimes restarted my computer but now it workes fine!!!

But if I uninstall my codecs I will not be able to view my other media files?

Remove all your video players except windows media player and remove all the various codecs you may have. Then download a free copy of k-lite codec and set this up with all codecs ticked and all extra’s. Comes with media player classic. this will play all movies and give proper thumbnails view in Windows explorer without shutting down all the time, happens with music too. TOO many codec packs and media players installed on one computer will conflict with each other.

I was having windows explorer thumbnail view shutdowns,movies would not play with players that recently would, no sound sometimes and more. Use one media player with lots of its own codecs Email is Judii5@hotmail.com if you want any more help

I was having the same problems everytime I would highlight an AVI file in windows explorer, the window would closes without any notice.

The differnt things I tried didn’t work, I went into the control Panel and add and remove programs, and uninstalled:
Dr. Divx

which didn’t help

then I uninstalled the following programs:

DivX Codec
DivX Content Uploader
DivX Converter
DivX Player
DivX Web Player

After I removed the above programs, the windows explorer no longer closed when an AVI files was highlighted.

Try to remove some of those files and see if the Windows Explorer still closes by itself.


I could have go a bad copy of those program, or something wasn’t right, but after uninstalling the above programs, I could still see the different AVI files.

The problem you are haveing is because the .avi files are useing a diffrent Codec than the player uses.

You need to find a support forum for the camera you are useing. In thier forum you should be able to find someones post suggesting what codes you will need.

I didn’t get any response from my last post so I thought I’d try once more.
I have a problem with AVI files downloaded from digital cameras. When I open Windows Explorer and change to a directory containing the AVI files I get a Windows Data execution prevention window come up telling me it’s closed the program. Then the Explorer window closes down. I don’t even have to select or run the video to get this, just be in the folder.
Any suggestions anyone?
