- try pushing the “Function” button several times, until you see the wellcome screen
on my WM8PD1 this operates the input/output function; you might be in “input” mode!
(or you have a genuine fault with your player)
good luck

Hey! Thanks heaps for your reply man. I gave it a go and the nokia charger didnt fit so I hit the cheap $2 shop and picked up a multi voltage power adaptor for $15. Now I have no dramas and also have a charger for other crap.

Take it easy and thanks again.

HI Everyone, I have not been able to play any AVI files on my Walk-M8 player. I have used the MP4Tool to convert files to AVI but it doesn’t have an output format of MP4. Does anyone know who the manufacturer is ?

John
I don’t have a Walk-M8 mp4 player (I ended up on this list by mistake, but I’m still interested in the issues): I have a number of other players- Toshiba, Laser, Medion.
Trouble is all “mpg4” players play _some_ mpg4 flavours, but never all. you have to convert. try first the MP4 Tool that came with the hardware (player). Hopefully, it will accept what you have. they never work for everything- that wouyld be too easy <g>. there are patent and copyright issues involved, too- some coders cost royalty fees.
avi files are usually DivX or XviD. check if your MP4 Tool accepts DivX. Watch for “freebee” conversion programmes on PC/computer magazines, they are working quite well. generally. or check Apple’s Quicktime Pro, it does a lot.
hope this helps! -hs

You don’t need a driver for the device. It acts as a standard USB MSD (Mass storage device), just like a memory key, external disk drive or most digital cameras.

I use mine with eComStation 2.0 Operating system, so I KNOW it doesn’t need a driver.

I’d also be interested in who the manufacturer is as the handbook suggests one goes to their website for updates - kinda hard when they don’t put their name on the brochure or the box !

Well so far I’m quite happy with mine. Bought from Strathfields in Artarmon near Sydney (Aus).

It does seem to use a strange video format however - not MP4 as the adverts say but rather AMV.

Also I cannot find ANY reference to the manufacturer in the manual - it’s almost as if Strathfields don’t want you to check the website for updates and info.

Searching on walk-M8 doesn’t bring up anything interesting but searching on AMV brings up references to several other players, that probably use the same electronics but are named differently and are in different cases.

I’m a bit worried if the device doesn’t charge via the USB port, I can’t see any other socket for a power supply.

If you mean the USB cable - it appears to be a standard usb to mini-usb cable - you should be able to get one from any electronics or photo shop.
