I can’t get .mp4 file extensions to work on my windows computer. I tried downloading and playing the files on quicktime, realplayer, windows classic, media player, k-lite codecs. Nothing works.

Do you sure that file is MP4?
What mistake occurs?

You can try use VideoCharge for more info about files...

I’ve noticed recently a subset of mp4 files don’t play on QuickTime Player either. Those will play fine with VLC Media Player though. I’m not sure why, however I suspect they may be encoded with non-standard tools, or be non MPEG-compliant.

It’s possible it’s not an mp4 file. Sometimes people dump junk on the net and just rename the extension. To check and make sure, use gspot and feed your file into it.
