I encountered the same problem about my Made in China Sony 4GB MP4 player. It gave me 233MB memory when I reformatted it. It also has virus which is so adamant, took me considerable time to remove it. I opened the player and looked for the memory chip. It is HYNIX HY27UF082G2A. Do you have any idea what is it’s physical capacity?

Thanks a lot.

Was anyone able to find a solution to the drop in memory from 4Gigs to 961MB???

is there a utility that will format as it was before? I have an 8gig that went to 475Mb.

Let me know and thanks...
