Why watch MP4 Videos

MP4 technology has opened a new horizon of possibilities for online media distribution and easy portability of audio-visual media.

What MP3 music did a decade ago, MP4 videos are doing today.

And as a result, it has made it possible to distribute high-quality audio-visual data through the internet. This has created an entirely new field of business paid video downloads.

But how does MP4 achieve all this? Dissemination of video data online is made possible by two properties of MP4 videos.

First, it can provide an adequately high quality that ensures the unimpeded enjoyment of latest movie titles.

Secondly, it produces files of a size that are small enough to be distributed online, or carried in a portable, personal video player.

In other words, it must compress the video in such a way that a manageable file size is achieved, while not compromising on quality.

What is the secret behind MP4 videos that makes all this possible

Raw or uncompressed video data is absolutely huge in size.

Try saving some television shows your hard drive without turning on any compression option, and you’ll see what this means.

A few minutes of raw video are enough to fill up completely even one of today’s modern high-capacity hard drives.

You’ll soon run out of space onyour computer.

So naturally, the solution is to compress the video data in such a way that it shrinks into a minuscule fraction of its original size, but does not lose quality in any perceptible way.

MP4 does this by using highly optimizing codecs, which must be installed on your system if you want to either encode or watch MP4 videos.

What do the codecs actually do? Well, the procedure is too technical for a detailed explanation , but the principle can be described.

Both audio and visual data have a lot of elements in them which do not really contribute anything to the multimedia experience.

There are a lot of audio frequencies or ranges of visual signals which do not really matter in the listening or watching, but they sit around nevertheless, taking up space in the video stream.

The MP4 codecs identify these portions of the sound and the pictures, and discard them.

The result is an MP4 video file that looks almost as good as the original, but is many, many times smaller!

hi, here’s a lot of guys talked a lot of things about listening music and watching videos on ipod, for myself i would like to buy one psp to enjoy myself.

there are so many advantages about psp,and it’s indeed very convenient to take it when u are on the way of work or journey . So during this time ,how will u spend your boring time? It’s a good idea to buy one psp to watch movies ,listen to music and even play games, and the power is sufficient to spend a long time .

I have got one psp about one year ago, so according to my own experience ,I have got enough evidence to say it’s really worth to buy one psp.

and this time ,i also want to recommend one cool software to convert your video files, which have different expansion names, into psp,
that’s ImTOO MPEG Encoder and ImTOO PSP Video Converter ,which supports PSP Video format (MP4) and is capable of converting all popular video formats, such as MPEG, WMV, AVI to PSP Video format (MP4, H.264/MPEG-4).

As a MP4 converter, all conversion processes are very easy and fast with hight quality. We’re going to show you step-by-step how to put video on PSP, enjoy movies and videos with 16:9 wide screen on your PSP now!

as to mpeg, a lot of people must be very familiar with this .

[/b]MPEG, Moving Picture Expert Group, is the format of VCD, SVCD, DVD.[/b] This format applies lossy compression to reduce redundant info in active images, and to express it more clearly, MPEG makes use of the fact that the two contiguous images are almost the same, to extrat the redundant info of the latter image ,as so to meet the compression aim( the highest compression reaches 200:1).

At present, MPEG suite family members are MPEG-1,MPEG-2,MPEG-4.The other two MPEG-7 and MPEG-2 are right now under development.

I would like to introduce someknowledge about MP4 ,too, hope this can give u a better understanding about it .

Within the ISO/IEC 14496 MPEG-4 standard there are several parts that define file formats for the storage of time-based media (such as audio, video etc.).

They are all based and derived from the ISO Base Media File Format, which is a structural, media-independent definition that is also published as part of the JPEG 2000 family of standards.

The MP4 file format defines the storage of MPEG-4 audio, scenes and multimedia content using the ISO Base Media File Format.

The AVC File Format defines the storage for the Advanced Video Coding (ISO/IEC 14496-10/AVC) standard data within files of the ISO Base Media File Format family.

A diagrammatic overview of the relationship between the various file formats with the ISO Base Media File Format is shown below

MP4 File Format

MP4 files are generally used to contain MPEG-4 media, including not only MPEG-4 audio and/or video, but also MPEG-4 presentations.

When a complete or partial presentation is stored in an MP4 file, there are specific structures that document that presentation.

MPEG-4 presentations are scenes, described by the scene language MPEG-4 BIFS.

Within those scenes media objects can be placed; these media objects might be audio, video, or entire sub-scenes

As we all know , most of video players such as PSP and iPod all support mp4 videos, so if u want to enjoy movies on them, u must convert the videos into MP4 formats first.

Just in this condition, there appears various mp4 video converters in the market, such as MP4 Converter for Mac, , a simple-fast-operated MP4 converter adapted to be installed for Mac ,which can be download for free on http://www.mp4converter.net/mp4-converter-mac.html, of course, there are many others similiar on this web, u can find some interested.

ok, let’s continue the media objects mentioned above, each object is described by an object descriptor, and within the object descriptor the streams that make up that object are described.

The entire scene is described by an initial object descriptor (IOD). This is stored in a special box within the movie atom in MP4 files.

The scene and the object descriptors it uses are stored in tracks ¡ª a scene track, and an object descriptor track; for files that comprise a full MPEG-4 presentation this IOD and these two tracks are required.

MPEG-21 File Format
As described above, the general meta-box can be used at the file level to contain a description and its associated or included data.

This structure is used for MPEG-21 files.

A file-level meta-box is used to hold an MPEG-21 Digital Item Declaration (DID), The meta-box also contains a list of attached resources; which may have local names, and may be located within the same file or in another file.

Yes, I would recommend using a PSP aswell. As Runningman said, you can watch MP4 format videos, listen to MP3 format music, play all kinds of games and of course, browse the internet.
