Internet video is any kind of movie or video that has been encoded to play over the Internet. It comes in many formats, some of the most popular being ASF, WMV, RM, RMVB, MOV, Divx.

Its most outstanding merits include internet playback, extendable media type, components available on the internet, streaming with priorities, multi-language support, independent environment, scalability, etc.

RM, Real Media, an audio/video compression criterion established by Real Networks. Netizens can use RealOne Player or RealPlayer to relay network audio/video sources up to RealMedia technological criteria. An outstanding merit of RealMedia is its able to set different compressing ratios in accordance with the variable transmission rate of internet, so as to make come true real-time propagation and play of video data with relatively low-rate internet, that is to say enable users to watch videos on-line. As for the distinctions between RM and ASF, generally speaking, RM video is a bit more smooth, while ASF has its edge in definition.

RMVB, a new video format as an upgraded version of RM. AVI, Audio Video Interleaved, is developed by Microsoft in 1992. AVI has such advantages as high image quality, application in multi-platforms.

But its disadvantages are also explicit, large volume, without a unified compression standard, and the most common nuisance is that the higher-version Windows Media Player simply can¡¯t play AVI videos which are edited with earlier codes, and vise versa.

So it is not a uncommon case that when we AVI videos , it just don¡¯t work or anyway it works ,there is only audio without image or such kinds of weird problems. If you happen to be stuck with these tracks, download related codecs to cope.

nAVI, new AVI , a new kind of video format. Don¡¯t mistake it for the brother of AVI, and in fact the two has little relationship. nAVI is a variation of compression arithmetic ASF, but still a bit distinct from it.

By increasing frame rate, nAVI enhances definition of ASF videos, but at the cost of the streaming attribute of ASF video files.

MOV, developed by Apple , features a high compression ratio and near perfect definition, while its most outstanding trait is its trans-platform ability, supporting Windows other than its intimate pal MacOS.

As many video players don’t support all the formats, so if you have such differently formatted files stored in you PC, and wanna play them on your iPod, PSP,or cute mobiles, you have to do some conversion work , if u have got one ipod , xilisoft ipod video converter talkd above is good for this, which can finish your job easily.

During Tuesday¡¯s Macworld Expo keynote, Apple CEO Steve Jobs gave the set-top box that streams multimedia content from your computer to your television a new name. Introduced last September under the iTV code name, the new Apple TV allows consumers to watch content from the iTunes on a television, bridging the gap between the computer and home entertainment system.

However, users will have to wait a bit before trying out the Apple TV for themselves. Jobs announced the $299 device would be available in February, though the company has begun taking orders.
