windows media player

Can anyone advise me on why i cannot open the file that i have downloaded to read .wmv from the microsoft site. i am using mac 10.3.5 safari browser and firefox 1. all attempts to open after download completed have been fruitless. The .bin winmedia installer file spits out a .sitx file that then activates a stuffit message that says unsupported archive format. Please help. Driving me nuts...
