why are you linking to the nasty ACE Mega Codec pack?

I see on your “Popular Downloads” list that ACE Mega Codec Pack is listed - could you remove the link/reference to that incompetent pack? That’s going to install Voxware MetaSound and MMSwitch, both of which are going to cause stability problems.

You can read my stance on codec packs here.
I’m generally against them, but I think Bjarne wanted to include them on the site for completeness. I just helped him compile a list of what’s available out there and we linked them.
We didn’t include the downloads themselves though, mostly because of size, but also partially because of what I said in my other post.

I put up a list of known Really Bad codec packs [url=http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=3c87f4632a8d4ffded11e4cb047164ab&t=132702]here[/url]. Since providing those to users is really harming them, is it possible to stop “listing” them?

I really like stable systems, and it seems easy enough to pull really dumb bad packs like Ace. =\
