iMovie09 from Apple is simply the best. Hands down you cannot beat the power and simplicity. However, if you do not have a Mac (like me, I have Windows Vista Ultimate 64), then you have no choice but to go with something else other than iMovie09. Here are my reviews on video making software. I have been trying to find something comparable to iMovie09 and nothing comes close accept....

iMovie09 from Apple (5 out of 5 stars) - simple the best! Most power and ease of use. Features are stunning and powerful!!!

Windows Movie Maker (3 out of 5 starts) - Closest thing to iMovie09, however very light in features and functionality, they copied features from an older version of iMovie. Very simple to use but not a lot of high-end features like support for Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound. Produced a movie within hours and video and sound quality was average to poor. Audio was on center and left speaker channels. Kind of goofy. No support for my Dobly 5.1 Surround Sound system.

Pinnacle Studio 12 (4 out of 5 stars) - This is the best video making software for home users I could find. Very simple and powerful. Supports HD and Dobly 5.1 Surround Sound. However, One major down feature is they do not allow you to evaluate the Dobly 5.1 surround sound feature until you pay for it. Well, I will not buy something unless I know it works, because I got burned by PowerDirector, so I am still looking at other trials.

Power Director 7.0 (3 out of 5 stars) - I bought this product and looked to be the best and had the most features. Spent hundreds and hundreds of hours making my home movie with tons of effects and video editing. When I went to burn the movie, it keeps producing an error/crash around 75% completetion. Technical support has no clue and spent over 5 months trying to get issue resolved with no success. Technical support is being provided from India and the developers are in Twain. The customer service and technical support is the worst you can possibly imagine. No way to get a hold of them unless you pay premium money for a phone number and that will still not get your issues resolved. The people in India are totally clueless. Needless to say, I was so disappointed and abandoned my home movie that took hundreds and hundreds of hours to make and am now looking for a new program.

Sony Vegas Movies Stuido Platinum (3 out of 5 stars) - Looked promising. Supports high-quality HD and Dobly 5.1 Surround Sound. Looks powerful but it is way too complex, too difficult to impliment video/audio affects and a nightmare to produce a DVD with menu. I got very frustrated and moved on.

Corel (1 out of 5 stars) - Got an error immediatly when I tried to burn a movie.

Adobe Premier Pro (1 out of 5 stars) - Would not import my .MPEG or AVCHD (sony format) movies. Spent less than 2 hours on it and decided it would not work for me. reply

Sony Vegas Pro is much better than vegas platinum.

You should’ve reviewed that instead.

It’s a very good editing program with several programs included with it, along with support for HD and Bluray.

It also comes with DVD Architect for DVD authoring. reply

The top-ranked video edting software for PC:Ulead Video Studio, Adobe Premiere Elements and Sony Vegas. But I think they are recommended for experienced users,it does take some learning and much more expensive.
If you are looking for something advanced but still user friendly with reasonable price,I will recommend DVD Slideshow Builder. Very easy to use with professional features and same sort of layout as Movie Maker however a lot more powerful. reply
