Wow... you guys really are noobs... and you won’t even know about it cuz I’m posting about three years to late! But, a bit torrent is a little tiny file that you dl from a sever, that little tiny file connects you to the seeder who is uploading the major file onto the internet. The more people seeding the torrent the better it’ll dl.
Some times you can actually preview a bit torrent but more often then not you can’t. I’m not sure why VLC player won’t preview them even though the file is done.
In essence you have to wait for the file to finish dling. Then open the file in a player of some kind. I recommend VLC.
Now, understand that even if you open the folder while the torrent client is still open and downloading just because you see the files does not mean you can view them. They have not been completely dled.
I’ve also found that if you close the torrent client mid dl you may be able to preview whats been dled, in other words you’ll just get fragments of the file and not the whole thing.
Sigh I hate noobs.

I tried to download a movie, first my computer used limewire...when that didnt work, I downloaded utorrent..Hours later my downloads finished, but now I cant get them to play!! Windows media player only plays the sound of the movie- no picture! I think I need to compress the files or something? Or what else do I need so I can watch the movie and not just listen to it????
I had same problem, luckily figured it out.
associate file type
Choose .torrent and change to bittorrent.
Appears that when load VLC, changes this association to VLC from bittorrent.
I’m no computer expert but this works for me. If you have downloaded the torrent in Bittorrent program simply go to preferences at the top right under one of the menu tabs in Bittorrent and choose to have all downloads opened with VLC player. They will then play automatically in VLC player when you click on them right from Bittorrent to play.
In addition, if you do not have Bittorrent I would suggest getting it. Bittorrent is a free download and great at getting torrents. I use Kickasstorrents.com to get movies and series as well as apps. You simply click on the little upside down magnet icon next to the torrent (the third icon in I think) and it automatically downloads into Bittorrent on your computer. Then to play simply follow the previous instructions I gave.
