Hi,
Thanks for your help. My question is that I have a wire connected from my computer to the TV. The TV shows my desktop but when I play a video, it plays on the monitor but doesnt show on the TV. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I have used WMP, RealPlayer, VLC Player, and Winamp but nothing works. THanks a lot!

Here is a link about how to connect a tv set to a pc. Check the setting for your video card on manufacturer site.http://www.svideo.com/compaq1700.html

hEY, JUST Look in your player,(go to Options -> Output (under playback) -> DirectShow Video and change to VMR9 (windowed), or (renderless) usually works too)

Here’s the deal: when you play video Windows uses DirectDraw to send image data (bypassing the video buffer) directly to your output device (monitor, tv, lcd) to speed things up. (It’s often referred to as hardware acceleration - it’s also used in games). The trouble is DirectDraw only works on one device at most (this may change in Vista - I’m not sure). MARCO 1’s suggestion may work, but keep in mind that disabling hardware acceleration can take a hit on performance. The better solution is to set your TV as the primary output device. If you right click your desktop, then properties, settings, there should be a drop down menu somewhere that will allow you to choose your primary output device (it’ll be usually be marked with a big 1 or a big 2).
It looks something like this
