This is very difficult to diagnose, as there are so many possible causes.
Can you reproduce the error? If yes do this:
Go to this folder
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson
and delete both files (drwtsn32.log and user.dmp).
Then run movie maker and MAKE it crash.
then go back to that folder and open drwtsn32.log.
Click edit, find, and look for this string: fault
Keep looking and clicking next because you’ll see a lot of “defaulted” - that’s not what you’re looking for.
Eventually you’ll see a line that has
FAULT ->
That tells you the assembly instruction where the crash occurred. Look up a few lines, and you’ll most likely see something like C:\WINDOWS\blahblahblah
blahblahblah is the file that caused the crash.
Tell us what blahblahblah is in your system, and we’ll think some more.
