I’m having trouble playing some .avi files with different programs(the .avi files r actually from a certain game). WMP gives an error, ingame, the movie plays without sound, and using divx player, I got the following error: FOURCC code “MXDG”.

Does anyone have any idea how this can be fixed?

What game does it show u this message when u try to play it . Is it Command & conquer (some games when u play it the intro or when u finish first level it play video) there must be some reason for this abnormal problem is that u have Display card thats not support the game u playfor example some TNT+TNT2 Cards , or ATi older than All-in-wonder 128 , or u use old version of WMP like 6.00
or the direct x for example v.6.00 can’t support the game (maybe game need DirectX v.7.00), Fourcc codec is use for some PSX games (some emulators use it)[i have no idea what MXDG]
Notice: not all Virtual files u seen on some games cd like the video u want to play it can play by normal player, some Game-designer use differnt format thats can be play only on game)for example PSX games : some of them own music on cd like Audio-cd but some u can heard music and u can’t play by Audioplayer so its not like audio-cd,PSX use format (i don’t remeber what it is now) but this format can be player if u use some encoding"convert” program from PSX audio-format to .wav or mp3, if u have (the beast whitin)game u will see many many videos in game, and if u explore the cd u can’t play these videos.

Yep some games and their in-game FMV etc is in a propriety format, meaning they can only be played back while the game is being played. This is a form of content protection.
