New problem with Windows Media Player 11

Have always had WMP as my default player for avi files, and never a problem watching them.

Now, about half the files open normally when clicked, and the other half produce a message at the lower left telling me that codec is being aquired, then codec aquired. The file will then begin to play, but without audio. When checking the properties of the files, all appear to be the same divx / lameMP3 video and audio.

I have the XP codec Pack 2.0.6 installed, and last night reinstalled WMP 11.

All files seem to play fine in Media Player classic, but I still want to get WMP 11 back in operation.

Can’t figure out what I might have done to bring this on, or how to correct it.
