Memory error with reading .AVI files in DVD encoder progs...??

I have been using winAVI to convert my .AVI files into DVD vob files ready to burn in DVDSHRINK... I recently experienced problems similiar with another topic in this forum..
the avi files shutting down explorer due to being unable to ID the avi files correctly in preview...
The same time that happened every program i use to convert AVI to DVD gives an error instantly stating “MEMORY LOCATION 000000x0 CANNOT BE READ AT LOCATION 00000000x0” and shuts down the App.
I have used the regedit to disable the prfeview of media in explorer and that sorted that issue out but my APPS still give the error message and shutdown.....
CAN any1 please help? iam at my wits end, i have replaced divx etc... and its still the same...
I can use NERO but it takes hours and gives a frame stutter effect every 1 second AND no chapters whereas winAVI took 30mins with chapters and was perfect conversion...
No other similiar software will work just crappy NERO..have tried reinstallation etc...no joy...

Looks like fun! Nero 6.6 had a huge update not too long ago but Nero 7 is still a pain for me even with 7.0.14 update so since than I use Roxio 8.0 a big comeback from the easy creamator 5.0 but for convertion I work with VSO DivX to DVD and for burning VSO Copy to DVD. Easy and fast add subs if you need them even my kid can make a dvd just give a try. The trial watermark your video file. http://www.vso-software.fr/
