Ok I’ve had a problem for a while now, and no matter what I do, it will NOT go away. The problem is strange, every time I try to open a folder with some vids in, windows explorer crashes, and when I try to open some of these vids, media player (v9) crashes aswell. I managed to narrow down the problem to the thumbnails - explorer was trying to load thumbnails it didnt have a proper codec for and died (or codec conflict), so I’ve installed the latest of every codec I could find, but there is still incidents on paticular vids. So I’m going to check what codec it uses, and possibly unistall EVERYTHING codec related and start over. I was just wondering, anyone else have similar problems?

*Update*, I found out that I “already” have the codecs required to play them (1 is “Low Motion Divx3.11, and other is Divx5.x - according to VideoToolbox). This makes less and less sense...

I had this very problem back when I downloaded divx 5.0.3 to upgrade it from divx 5.0.2. It was a very specific problem with the AMD K6-2 processor. Every time I previewed an avi made with divx 3 in explorer, or tried to played it in a media player, it would crash. They subsequently
fixed the bug in version 5.0.4. I think the bug is specific to divx 5.0.3, AMD K6-2 processors, and divx 3 avi files. Try updating to a more recent version of divx and see if it makes a difference.
