Converting avi. files

I have a movie in two parts and tried to convert them to dvd so I could burn them. Converting part one went well but when I tried converting part to it ask if i wanted to overwrite the files. Does that mean that the entire movie is on both part one and part two and if not how do I burn both parts on one dvd?

i want to convert .dem files to .mpeg file
