firefly:
Once you install PowerDVD (http://www.gocyberlink.com/english/download/dl_file_new.jsp?dl_id=1&ProdId=28) the MPEG2 codec is installed. Once you uninstall PowerDVD the MPEG2 codec is left behind. You should now be able to play MPEG2 files in other media players such as Windows Media Player.
Another solution is to install VideoLAN (www.videolan.org). It uses its own builtin filters to play various video files.
Thank you, Frightfo0.
However, download of PowerDVD on the website you mentioned was not sucessful. It gives an image of broken camera film (Quicktime) during downloading. What’s wrong with my IE browser or Quicktime?
?:(
The link I supplied alows you to download the decoder also...once installed teh codex will work on all media players.
I have tested this over and over. and no problems have come up !:)
download mpeg2 codex and instal it and the media player will do it. I don’t rember were to find it.
If you want to view Mpeg2/SVCD in Windows Media Player download the Mpeg2 codex from onw of these links:
http://dshow.narod.ru/video/mpeg2codec_installer.zip
http://download.divxmovies.com/mpeg2codec_installer.zip
Unzip and install the codex and you should be able to view Mpeg2/SVCD files with media player
If using TMPEGenc use this plugin to enable TMPGEnc to open and read Mpeg2/SVCD files so you can convert them to VCD:
http://www.marumo.ne.jp/mpeg2/m2v_vfp-0.6.36.lzh
Open the lzh archive with Winrar and extract all files to the TMPGEnc folder. You should be able to convert the Mpeg2/SVCD file to VCD format.

Hope that helps... :)

i wouldent waste your time downloading power dvd to “barrow” its codec because it didnot work youll just end up donloading and installing and uninstalling it for no reason
Why not just download wondiws movie maker from the wondiws live website you can make movies with HD settings and have a constant bitrate of up to 135Mbps if your heart so desires.
