chinese sub turns to boxes

i have this big5 ssa file and this avi
im using vlc to play them
the video is fine but im getting boxes
[][][]...[][][][][] instead of chinese sub
plz help... x[

You may not have Chinese fonts installed. If you have Windows XP, go to your Regional and Language Options in classic Control Panel. In the Languages tab, check Install files for East Asian languages.

i went to the site but i dun quite understand the iso stuff
