I’ve been downloading and playing AVI files for years with no problem at all. I have many of them in my computer that I’ve downloaded over the years and they’ve always played perfectly in all my players. Suddenly last week these files have been giving me trouble, big trouble.
So now if I play them in my Real Player 10, or my Windows Media Player 9 series, they will play, but when the video clip is done, the player freezes up! Also if I try to adjust the volume, or stop the clip, or advance to the next clip, the player will freeze up too. I can pause the clip, but not stop it. It happens every time.
Also there is no sound when I play these files in either player.
So tonight I uninstalled both players and downloaded new ones. But both players still have a big problem with AVI files.
I don’t know what else to do. Is there some missing codec? I had all the necessary codecs and never had a problem before. What could have caused this? It’s very frustrating. Please help.
Thanks.
are you sure its a problem with the players and not your computer? you could have some spyware they slow down your computer alot especially when you run movie files
You could try a different movie player bsplayer, neuview, vlc and crystal player are pretty good.
It sounds like a problem when contructing the graph for the filters crystal player and neuview have thier own code for making the graph you could see if it plays fully in them.
best of luck
Okay. All other types of video files play perfectly, but AVI files cause the players to freeze up.
But it wasn’t that way until suddenly last week or whenever it was.
I like to add a whole bunch of video clips to the media library in my Windows player and then play them consecutively, but when an AVI plays, I end up having to closeout the player using control/alt./delete and open up the player again just to play the next clip.
I also have the latest Quicktime, DivX, GDivX, Zoom and Winamp players. But I usually only use them for files that Windows and Real won’t play.
Also I have Panda Antivirus that is constantly being updated, and also Spyware Blaster, which I also keep updated. I recently did a full scan of the entire computer with Panda and found no viruses whatsoever.
So I’m at a loss as to what’s wrong.
Thanks,
Barry

(Broken context menu entries can cause these problems)
I managed to remove the file mr.and mrs.smith(2005) by using the command: “open with divx player” instead of Media Player. When it didn`t start, I canselled the process in task manager, and thereafter deleted the file the normal way.
stop explorer.exe in processes, you will lose all of your desktop. bring up task manager and add task explorer.exe in c:\windows delete the file. good luck
got it! go to:
http://www.gibinsoft.net/gipoutils/fileutil/index.htm

If you’re still looking for the movie Mr. and Mws. Smith (the good version without problems).. The file is called mof-mamstcc.cd1.avi and mof-mamstcc.cd2.avi..
Good luck with downloading (without stupid problems!)
