Hello, I have a video that it works fine for the first 20 seconds and then the the video freezes but the sound still goes on strong for the remainder of the time. I have tried avi fixers, nimo’s codec pack and they didn’t fix it. I don’t know if the file is just corrupted or what. Please Help if you can.

Thanks,

Scan it for bad frames (if VirtualDub MP3 freezes or tells you there a bad frames, it is corrupted):

Ok I have the same problem, thats why I am looking here for an answer. You can do what they told you but if that does not work(did not work for me) and you just want to watch it without converting to mpeg then use"Divx player” or “vlc” player which you can get from www.videolan.org. That should work. I have to find out why window media player stops playing after a few seconds, otherwise you can I can not convert the avi to vcd.

FYI - VideoLAN (VLC) ignores bad frames/corrupted parts of the movie. It isn’t a way to fix a file, and as you have discovered, it’s no solution to actually being able to make VCD out of the an AVI file.

VideoLAN doesn’t use codecs, it uses its own filters. Windows Media Player uses codecs

VideoLAN doesn’t use codecs, it uses its own filters. Windows Media Player uses codecs - this is the explanation as to why WMP cannot play corrupted movies files.

Some questions: Why wasn’t VirtualDub able to fix the file? What errors did it give? There are other methods to editing/fixing bad frames in a file. The one that I gave above should be one of the easiest to follow.
