Vista Solved

I am running vista, and was having the same problems as described above. To resolve this, I went into my nvidia settings-color display-and there was an option to let nvidia decide colors or media player. I switched to media player decides, and whalla! solved. All colors are correct. Man It has been this way for a couple of weeks! What a relief! Hope this helps someone.

I used G-Spot, to figure out my vid used the XVid codec, I downloaded the latest and reinstalled that codec, and my problems dissapeared.

Vista - Right click desktop - Nvidia control panel - Video amd TV - Adjust colors - Play a video and play around with the settings(I only touched the settings under standard, and it worked like a charm)

this worked for me when my avi files were all purple and shiz.

if u use ffdshow video decoder, right click it in ur taskbar when u have ur avi opened(paused), and click ffdshow video decoder. there should be a tab on the left called picture properties, check that then set the hue setting all the way to the left.

Follow the Device Manager troubleshoot help:

Decrease hardware acceleration

Open Display Properties in Control Panel.
Click the Settings tab, click Advanced, and then click the Troubleshooting tab.
Drag the Hardware acceleration slider to the left.
Click OK, and then click OK again.
Restart the computer when you are prompted to do so.

I did this and the problem stopped and didn’t had to restart the computer. Just drag the slider until the problem stops.

Had the problem with movies displayed in red color in Winamp and blue in Windows Media Player.
Resolved by reinstalling graphics card drivers.

Here is a very simple and effective solution which worked well for me:
I had the same problem, all colors were wrong when played with Window Media Player.
However the same WMP file will play nicely if you open it with NERO SHOWTIME (I believe Power DVD might work too?.

Configuration of Windows Media Player solved the Problem:
Menu Tools/Options/Performance/Advanced...
Disable Option “Use Video Mixing Renderer”

“Hardware assisted Windows Media video” option will not show if your screen resolution is set somewhere around 1024x768, can only see it when scrolling down in “all settings” option in Video settings inside Catalyst Control Center.

Sometimes when you update your system, your video card and sound card drivers can get corrupted or replaced with a newer and sometimes glitchy version. search the card manufacturers website and the net for drivers and see if you can find a solution from other people with the same video card as yourself.

this work for me. restore graphis adapter settings to defaults.......

Perfect. Worked like a charm.

After installing the new windows media player, it messed up all my settings, and everything was purple in colour. However, i went to the NVidea control panel (which i have never accessed in my life) and the HUE was set at 100%. I changed it down to 50% and now all is fine.

No idea why it happened, but it did so after updating WM player a few weeks back (May/June 2009)

Same problem here. Went into the graphics card settings and told it to allow the video application set the color instead of the video card.
