.AVI files closing media players and explorer

Can anyone help me? I’ve been trying to play my avi. movies (it’s been the same way with WMP, WMPC, BSP, etc) I go into ( ) program and try to open it, but few seconds later it says it has encountered a problem and needs to close. Similarly, when I go into and folder and even click on an .AVI file, Explorer encounters a problem and needs to close. It’s been fine with music and any Windows Media Files, but I can’t even get close to my precious avi’s.

I’d love it if someone has a solution for me! Thanks!
