windows movie maker and ogm and mkv files

help me please i have some ogm and mkv files that i want to make into a music video but every time i try to use windows movie maker to do so it does not work at first it would just say that it did not have the necessary codec to import the file then a friend of mine told me to change the name of the file extension and i did now it when i try to import the files it works but after separating the files into clips it freezes and then an error message come up I’ve tried it with other videos and it works just fine what i want to now is if their is a codec or codecs that i can use to make it work or if there’s a another movie maker program that i can use that can support these 2 files

For mkv files I’d recommend going to this page http://www.matroska.org/downloads/windows.html and grabbing a filter (splitter). That should make mkv files readable in WMM.
I’m not 100% sure about ogm, but I think if you search you’ll probably find directshow splitters or filters for it too. (I need to update my knowledge on this at some point!)

i dont get it i installed that and still dosent work :| at all .. in movie maker

What Yoy Can Do Is, Convert The MKV To AVI, Whith a Converter Like “Total Video Converter” I Believe This Program Can Convert Your MKV To AVI And Your OGM File Into MP3 or Wave Which The Movie Maker Will Recognize And Be Able To Edit Them, Im Not That Shure About OGM Because This File Has Some Digital Rights Management To Prevent On CopyRight, Anyway Good Luck And Hope This Will Help You
