Hi Dr. Mukar,

Did you change the default file type on the Sony camera itself? Can you teach me how? Thanks a lot.

Thanks!

Interesting....I have used w/o any problems my SONY H-1 for several YEARS...videos never a problem until I emptied a memory stick on this NEW computer. Suddenly, I have the THM-on-my-VIDEOS problem to try and solve. I’ve skimmed thru these postings and and not sure what I’ve learned other than others are having this trouble. OKAY----the THM may mean THUMB for the VIDEO....[they are also “named” MOV “type” THM file . . .] and I CAN retrieve the “first frame thumnail” [as mentioned previously] but....have I LOST my VIDEOS???? [haven’t been able to find them...and...I, too, deleted them from my memory stick]????????? btw: my camera manual says NOTHING about any setting options . . . and my effort to find some has been unproductive. reply

Does anyone have an answer to this question?

Nischal, did you ever get this resolved? I’m in a similar situation. I am trying to playback (using my camera) videos I copied from my computer back to my memory card. Can anyone help? I have both the avi. and .thm on the memory card

Thanks! reply

I also have a cybershot and for some reason all my short video clips are no longer there. When I plug in the camera to my USB, I note that I have .THM files but none of the corresponding .AVI files. Is there an explanation as to why these would vanish without cause and also, is there a way to recover them? Thanks, New Yorker reply

I’m quite nervous about all this advices because it’s all pice of sh..t. If you want to view this fu..king THM movies you can download quick time player (for free)and you can view it. but still I don’t know how to convert this shit to some normal avi. By the way, How it is possible that canon is using so strange file format? Crazy! reply

I may add a little variety here! For one, I have (well, had) a HP M627 camera with which I took a fair bit of video with until the screen got mashed. Recently , but just don’t know when, I discovered that all of my clips have lost the picture but sound is still there.I cannot remember if the avi files had corresponding thm files; if they did , they don’t now so wondered if indeed you do need the thm in the folder.I tried to use the memory card from the camera in another reader and they are pictureless too.(The only ones that survived are a montage that I started to create on a DVD creation app.) reply
